Being Healthy is Simple?

As the saying goes, “Certain things may seem simple, but it’s not always easy”.  That saying certainly applies to taking care of our health.  Being healthy can be simple, but it’s not easy.   All of us know in our mind that eating healthy, exercising, adequate sleeping and keeping a low-stress level will lead to a healthier body.  Yet, why is it that it’s not that easy to do?

The reason is that most of the things that will keep us healthy comes from discipline and constant evaluation.   I’ve found over the years as a chiropractor, that the best patients are always the ones that are constantly in search of great information about health care.  The chiropractic patients that gets the big picture are living the healthy lifestyle, but additionally are looking for ways to make their nutrition better, or exercise more efficient.  They’re the same patients that make keeping their appointments a priority, without excuse and without fail.  So, what is it that make these patients so disciplined.  I think a lot of it has to do with constant learning about what works for their body and what doesn’t.   

One of the thing that our educational system has failed our kids is in terms of making health a priority.  Most high school kids going to University will have a hard time because they’ll not be able to make a healthy meal, or they may not think that exercising is essential.  Other students may even sleep less to study more, which is usually a vain attempt to learn more before their exams. 

In our chiropractic office, I try to teach my patients that there are five pillars of health care: 

  1.  Taking care of the spine and the nervous system
  2. Proper nutrition
  3. Moderate exercise
  4. Proper rest
  5. Lowering stress level

The five pillars of health care may seem simple, but it certainly is not always easy to implement.  In fact, each of these points may require its individual article in my future blog.
