At the core of chiropractic care is the chiropractic adjustment. A spinal adjustment is the application of forces used to help the body’s correction of nerve interference. The adjustment must be given with the correct amount of pressure in the proper direction at a specific time. The chiropractic adjustment is usually done by hands, however adjusting instruments such as the Impulse adjusting instrument can also be implemented in our Mississauga office.
The primary purpose of the chiropractic adjustment is to correct and reduce nerve interference. The healing potential of the human body can improve with the correct nerve flow to the affected area and the improvement of the overall body chemistry. If you don’t have any problems or symptoms and you visit your chiropractor, you won’t necessary receive an adjustment unless you have nerve interference.
Most patients that have an adjustment experience a feeling of relaxation that can last from a day to a week. Patients may also experience improved night’s sleep and better overall energy. Some patients experience symptomatic improvement after the very first adjustment while others don’t feel any difference until many adjustments. Often, a patient may not be aware of internal improvements.
Some patient may feel discomfort after their first adjustment, ranging from soreness to general fatigue. In almost every case, the symptoms go away within the next few adjustments. The discomfort is usually due to the healing process of the body after adjustments.
