Holiday Stress can Increase the Risk of Heart Attack

How Healthy is Your Heart during the Holidays?

Compared to any other disease in the world, heart disease kills more people per year. Heart attacks make up the majority of these deaths related to heart disease. What’s interesting is that the incidence of heart attacks is highest at a certain part of the year. That time of the year is the HOLIDAY SEASON/CHRISTMAS SEASON and affects both men and women. A study from the Journal of Circulation stated that “the number of cardiac deaths is higher on December 25 than on any other day of the year, second highest being December 26, and third highest on January 1st.”

Holiday Stress can Increase the Risk of Heart Attack

Most people would consider December to be the most stressful month of the year, with the added hustle and bustle of the holiday season to the already existing everyday stresses. The added increased risk of heart attacks originates from the added mental and physical pressure that comes from financial strain, busier and more packed schedules, and increased consumption of sugar, salt and alcohol, especially in much higher portions. The Journal of Circulation also stated that “People tend to gain weight during the holiday season and take in more salt, putting additional stress on an already weakened heart.” Due to busier schedules, there’s a lack of free time to exercise and regulate a proper sleeping schedule/habits. All this added stress taxes the heart and cardiovascular system, which leads to an increasing risk of heart related events.

Other interesting facts about heart attacks include:

  1. More heart attacks occur on a Monday more than any other day in the week. Saturday ranks second.
  2. Most heart attacks happen during the early morning hours between 4-10 AM. This is when blood platelets are stickier and increased adrenaline released from the adrenal glands can then trigger a rupture of plaques in coronary arteries.
  3. Almost half of all women who have heart attacks will die by the end of the first year following a heart attack.
  4. Many heart attack survivors experience the attack as the first sign of coronary artery disease. No pain or symptoms were present before the attack.
  5. Heart attacks are 27% more likely to occur around the victim’s birthday, especially in women with high blood pressure. High blood pressure is huge indication of who is at risk of a heart attack. Blood pressure kept in the normal ranges reduces the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Avoiding bad foods, getting a good amount of sleep and just minutes of exercise every day lowers the risk of heart attacks.

Chiropractic Adjustments are Medically Proven to Reducing Causes of Heart Disease

THE MOST IMPORTANT HEALTH HABIT ASSOCIATED WITH INCLUSIVELY REDUCING MULTIPLE CAUSES OF HEART DISEASE COMES FROM HAVING REGULAR CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS.

Proper alignment of the nervous system reduces high blood pressure and all of the associated negative risks that come with it. Research (2007) showed that a Chiropractic adjustment delivered into the upper neck lowered blood pressure greater than the use of two blood pressure-lowering medications given in combination. The most surprising finding in the study was that all of the benefits of an adjustment, such as reduction in blood pressure, occurred WITHOUT THE PREVIOUS PRESENCE OF NECK OR BACK PAIN! These corrections in the study were to adjust spinal misalignments in patients WITHOUT ADVERSE SPINAL SYMPTOMS.
