With the ongoing lockdown within Ontario, many of our patients in Mississauga and all over the G.T.A. are continuing to work from home. Here at the Active Family Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, we are aware of the impact working from home can have on your spine and your health. Here are three simple, practical tips to help with your health and well-being, while you work from home:
Change your clothes
When the pandemic first started, many people rejoiced at the fact that they
would be able to wear pajama bottoms to their Monday meetings. A year
later, many professionals are finding it hard to separate their work and
home life as both are carried out in the same environment. Not everyone has
the luxury of a home office, with many people working from their dining
room tables or even their bedrooms. Changing out of your pajamas and into
an outfit you regularly wear to work, can help to mentally prepare you for
your workday. Once the clock hits 5 pm, changing into your sweatpants may
even feel like a mental reward. Changing your clothes is one small but
beneficial step in the development of a healthier mind during this
lockdown. A healthy mind helps maintain a healthy spine.
Move every 30 minutes
If you are currently seeing a Mississauga chiropractor at the Active Family
Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, you know that movement is not only
encouraged but is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Many people working
from home find themselves hunched over computer screens for hours at a
time. Our chiropractors recommend changing your position every 30 minutes.
Consider investing in a sit-stand desk for your workstation. Do you have
frequent meetings or phone calls throughout your day? Try plugging your
headphones into your phone, and taking walks outside during these meetings
and calls. With all this movement, it is important to keep yourself & your
spine hydrated with water regularly. Find small ways to incorporate
movement into your workday, even if it is as small as shifting your
position every 30 minutes.
Open your windows
Transitioning into warmer weather, everyone wants to be outside. With a
full workday, taking regular breaks to step outside may not be a viable
option. Even so, it is still important to get fresh air into your lungs.
So, open up your windows and blinds. Let the air and light into your
household and workspace. Allow your body to inhale the fresh air and soak
in the sunshine. During your breaks, take some time at your open window,
your balcony, or your backyard deck to slow and steady your breathing. Your
mind and body will benefit from this small modification.
